Library Street Collective is pleased to participate in Untitled Art 2025 (Booth A35) with a group booth featuring work by Akea Brionne, Sam Friedman, Robert Moreland and Tyrrell Winston.

Friedman’s Cave and Beach paintings are gradient, atmospheric works rooted in the tradition of American Abstract Expressionist painters who explored line, color, and the systematic application of paint. Within this heritage, Friedman examines methodical processes where repetition and self imposed parameters lay the groundwork for his compositions, but permit him the freedom to build each piece instinctively by hand. Also digging sharply into art history, Winston’s Sheepskins reference Christopher Wool’s iconic text paintings of the late 1980s, engaging standardized letters as both visual and semantic elements. While less overtly abstract than Friedman’s works, Winston treats text as formal shapes in their own right, balancing communicative clarity with graphic composition and underscoring the interplay between language and visual form.

Moreland, on the other hand, approaches abstraction through structure and repetition, developing canvas-sized panels into three-dimensional wall works that emphasize tension and spatial rhythm. Like the creators of 1960s “painting objects,” he creates in the unconventional space between painting and sculpture. Brionne’s works, too, are materially innovative, integrating textile and embroidery into the canvas to explore figuration and surface simultaneously. Her approach challenges boundaries between traditional notions of painting and craft, while examining how histories of colonialism shape cultural storytelling, memory, and identity within the African Diaspora.

While each artist works within the framework of painting, their approaches to the canvas diverge, demonstrating the medium’s contemporary capacity to absorb a range of conceptual inquiry and material experimentation.
