Library Street Collective's sister gallery, Louis Buhl & Co. is a Detroit-based contemporary art gallery and project space that highlights unique works alongside editions and a curated selection of art objects and unique collaborative products. Since its inception, the gallery has rapidly evolved in its dynamic presentation of artists at all stages in their careers, with the goal of representing varied points of view and divergent practices. Maintaining a multidisciplinary focus on scale and medium, Louis Buhl & Co. balances its exhibition programming with the production of print editions and unique series, ultimately serving as an incubator for individuality, experimentation and artistic expression.

Louis Buhl & Co. works hand-in-hand with artists to develop their ideas, as well as provide the resources and support to explore new outlets with a demographic of accessibility and wider reach in mind. The gallery is driven by the pursuit of and creativity involved in solving problems alongside artists, and takes pride in helping them conceive unique ideas that are highly representative of their wider body of work.

Exhibitions

The Louis Buhl Salon showcases a changing selection of new and archived editions and projects; it balances the exclusive offering of a traditional gallery with the accessibility of retail, presenting high-quality print and art object editions alongside a curated selection of art books, ceramics, artist-designed fashions, and unique collaborative products. The heart of the space is centered around our Salon Highlight, a special means of exhibiting a rotating assortment of unique works by selected artists.

Editions

Louis Buhl & Co. balances its exhibition programming with projects that exist outside of an artist’s normal studio practice, from print and sculpture editions to art objects and unique series. We provide artists with the resources to explore new outlets with a demographic of accessibility in mind, and facilitate the sourcing of the best processes, materials, and manufacturers suited for each project. Working hand-in-hand with trusted partners locally in Detroit and throughout the world, Louis Buhl takes pride in its top-of-the-line fine art prints, which are created through an array of diverse processes including but not limited to: Prints employing layers of hand-pulled screens; Prints with high gloss spot UV treatment; Monoprints and Hand-embellished prints; Prints with unique formats and Multiple color blend Split-Fountains; Hand-pulled 4-color process prints with gold and platinum leaf; Hand-painted multiples. Within this area of the business, Louis Buhl aims to position itself as an imaginative space for artists to further explore the possibility of their craft through both new and familiar media.

The gallery has developed editions with artists including Johnny Abrahams, Tiffany Alfonseca, Cristina BanBan, McArthur Binion, Morgan Blair, Greg Bogin, Ryan Travis Christian, Rosson Crow, Conrad Egyir, Amir H. Fallah, Beverly Fishman, Sam Friedman, Jammie Holmes, Jason REVOK, Tyrrell Winston, Karl Wirsum and many more.
