Bryce Detroit is an Afrofuturist artist, producer, and cultural architect that uses arts and cultural programming as mechanisms for world-building. Founder of The Garage, active since 2014, the space serves as a portal to a world where radical imagination rooted in ancestral literacy is the guiding force and as a critical piece of a burgeoning, neighborhood-rooted cultural and economic infrastructure. This multi-pronged public art project, which includes a single “The Hood is Closed to Gentrifiers” has had iterations across Turtle Island provoking dialogues on the historical context of gentrification while uplifting 21st century trailblazers.
