On Thursday, September 2nd, Library Street Collective will be hosting an iteration of JR’s Inside Out 11M in the Belt Alley. The community-based installation will take place from 10AM to 4PM. Inside Out 11M will be in Detroit to provide immigration advocates, local leaders, and community members with a unique platform to amplify their voices in urging Congress to enact legislation this Fall to create a pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants who call America home.
Inside Out 11M is part of a nationwide, participatory art initiative launched by award-winning artist JR to create a portrait of America that includes immigrants and the descendants of immigrants alike. For the Detroit stop, Inside Out 11M will give community members an opportunity to take their pictures and join thousands of others nationwide who have used art as an expression of standing in solidarity with millions of immigrants. Inside Out 11M is on a national, 16-city tour, including Las Vegas, Denver, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Over the past decade, more than 400,000 people spanning 138 countries have participated in the Inside Out Project. The project has been on every continent, with over 2,000 actions created that have centered on various social justice topics.
