Library Street Collective, the Shepherd, and For Freedoms are excited to launch “Where Do We Go From Here?,” a public art installation of a flag over the Detroit River at Stanton Yards across from Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. The flag contains a question that is also the title of a forthcoming book, “For Freedoms: Where Do We Go From Here?,” the first monograph by the artist collective of the hundreds of artists’ billboards they have installed around the country.
For Freedoms is an artist-led organization that centers art as a catalyst for creative civic engagement, discourse and direct action. With the aim to infuse an antipartisan, arts-based perspective into the political landscape, For Freedoms has collaborated with hundreds of artists, activists, and scholars to create more than 500 evocative billboards that use art as a vehicle to deepen public discussions on civic issues and core values. This monograph celebrates how For Freedoms transformed public commercial space into exhibition space, and launched a creative collaboration of epic proportion.
The flag is part of a larger set of public art activations, billboards, and artist-led town hall meetings around the country and will fly from September 30, 2024 into 2025.
