Library Street Collective will present a monumental sculpture by Miami-based artist Kennedy Yanko in the Meridians sector (M17) at Art Basel Miami Beach. This large-scale sculpture exemplifies Kennedy Yanko’s signature practice, in which she transforms found metal—cut, bent, and reshaped—before draping it with her signature paint skins: smooth, cascading sheets of acrylic that contrast the metal’s rigid form. “When I found the large, rectangular metal container for this project, I knew I had to dismantle the whole to see the sum of its parts. With the help of machine jaws, we cut, bent and reshaped the cart into distinct forms. Squinting at the metal, blurring my sight enough to see its most pure content — its most immediate edges — I began to perceive how I would reunite the forms into a gestaltist whole. It is in those moments where the act of receiving feels like being held. Present, safe, guided, and in the intimacy of throes.” – Kennedy Yanko

Kennedy Yanko’s (b. 1988, St. Louis, MO) institutional exhibitions include the Brooklyn Museum; the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit; and University of South Florida, amongst others.
